The aim of this collaboration is to democratize access to Big Data technologies and help businesses discover them, align them with their business challenges and quite simply, implement them.
Much has been said about Big Data of late and we are well aware of its potential benefits. It is now time for companies to find out in what way these benefits can suit their specific needs:
A Hadoop platform-based Platform as a Service (PaaS) to expedite Big Data project deployment
Within the context of the initiative, Business & Decision Eolas offers in its Datacenter in Grenoble a PaaS and software based on the Open Source Hadoop Framework, distributed by Intel itself, Intel® Distribution for Apache Hadoop software, since the beginning of the year. An Early Adopter of Intel's European distribution, Business & Decision enjoys a privileged relationship with Intel's innovation and R&D teams and has developed particular expertise in the most advanced functions of this platform, namely as regards performance, security and administration. The new platform on offer is specifically designed to meet Big Data application requirements (elasticity to support all volumes of data to process, ability to integrate various and multifaceted data, analysis power, etc.), using the most recent Dell servers: Dell R720xd servers equipped with Intel® Xeon® E5-2650L processors, with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology and Intel SpeedStep® technologies to reduce consumption.
An agile Big Data technology contextualization approach for each business use case
This platform made available to companies for their Big Data projects is also the one that will be used for the Datalyse project, carried out by Business & Decision and its partners, and financed within the context of the State Program to invest in the future. This three-year project pools know-how from seven academic and industrial partners (for more information, please visit www.datalyse.fr).
Through this collaboration, Intel moves closer to the Datalyse consortium as a technological partner.
Its aim is to standardize the case-based experiment and discovery approach. Hence, the Cloud-based Hadoop platform will be offered to customers in PaaS mode to enable discovery and application of the technologies according to context.
"Big Data innovation is not simply about adopting new information management technologies: our customers need on-demand know-how and services that will help them make the most of all their information resources, and they need it now. To support them, Business & Decision has teamed up with the industry leader to develop a unique ecosystem, building knowledge and expertise networks with both public and private partners, and that are based on innovative infrastructures such as our "Datacenter in Grenoble," says Vincent Rivière, Business & Decision France Managing Director.
An academic partnership to train fresh talents in Big Data technology implementation
The Big Data subject is a relatively new one. The technological standards used, even though fully proven by major Internet players, are yet to be discovered when it comes to business uses. Skills in the field are rare.
Drawing on its long-standing partnership with universities and skills centers such as Minalogic (Grenoble) and Picom (Lille), Intel and Business & Decision have set up skills acquisition programs for fresh talents.
"With the Intel® Distribution for Apache Hadoop software, Big Data is now ready for operational deployment and business solution implementation with measurable benefits. To make this happen, Intel is happy to contribute to Business & Decision's investment in the industrial and academic realms since this will result in further innovation and competitiveness." stated Parviz Peiravi, Principal Architect, Intel Corporation.
One operation, driven by the Grenoble IT laboratory (LIG), has already been carried out within the context of Middleware and Distributed Applications (ICAR). Open to students, academic and industrial players, the initiative was held from 26 to 30 August 2013 to help companies meet the new challenges posed by the Cloud Computing evolution. It mainly comprised of practical work sessions during which participants were able to discover and handle the Big Data Hadoop technology as well as Intel's distribution, based on Business & Decision Eolas' new architecture.
